Studies have shown...You're stupid.

I just realized something today.

When I was doing an assignment for PE at school today, I was looking at articles and saw that a new way of performing CPR was now the new "official" way. To justify this, the article stated that "Studies have shown that if one does compressions in the first four minutes, there's an increased likelihood of the person surviving..." blah blah blah. OK, so that makes sense to me. But I realized that if someone put "Studies have shown" in front of any statement and backed it up with the name of some college or university, you could probably get anyone to believe anything. For example, "Studies have shown that babies are starting to come from storks due to the shortage of straight couples." Then just add something about the University of Maryland or something and BAM, you're golden. Of course, I bet it also depends on how gullible the person you're convincing is, plus how official you make it sound. But, I think that'd be an interesting social project. Say, take some weird fact, survey 100 random people and ask if they think it's true. Like an f-ed up version of Family Feud xD I don't know, maybe it's just my cynical views on people that made me think of this. But I still think it's worth a shot. I mean studies have shown... :P
